UO GRADUATE STUDENTS REWARDED FOR SERVICE

EUGENE--Three University of Oregon graduate students will receive 1998 Graduate Service Awards in recognition of their academic merit and outstanding service to the community and university on Saturday, May 16, during the annual Family Weekend All-University Awards Luncheon.

Award recipients are Bereniece Jones, a voice and music master's degree student of Dorr, Mich.; Therese Peffer, an architecture master's degree student of Cypress, Calif.; and Rosie Reyes, a biology doctoral degree student of San Antonio, Texas.

A subcommittee of the Graduate Council and representatives of the UO Graduate School selected the students.

The awards, jointly sponsored by the Graduate School and the Office of Student Life, were established six years ago to recognize graduate students who have succeeded in merging education and service.

Jones, daughter of Richmond M. Jones Sr., 1685 Margaret Dr., Dorr, Mich., is a Eugene Opera Curriculum Development Program member and a Saturday Morning Children's Concert Series performer.

Peffer, daughter of Marjorie and Ed Peffer, 10490 Gregory Circle, Cypress, Calif., is a Graduate Teaching Fellow in the Department of Architecture and a Department Head Search Committee member.

Reyes, daughter of Raul Reyes, 345 Halliday, San Antonio, Texas, is a Brain Awareness Week volunteer and an American Society for Cell Biology/Marine Biology Laboratory Fellow.
