BACKGROUND

About 100 students, accompanied by their parents, will attend Honors Day, an annual university visit program sponsored by the UO Office of Admissions. The program aims to recruit high school juniors who are pursuing the most rigorous curriculum offered at the high school level and who hope to continue challenging coursework in college. Attendance is by invitation only, and those selected were taken from a database of students with grade-point averages of 3.5 or higher.

Honors Day provides visiting students and their parents the opportunity to see the UO campus, to learn about scholarships, deadlines and qualifications for majors, and to attend classroom interest sessions about various course offerings. These interest sessions will be presented by representative department faculty on topics ranging from "Exploring Physics" to "Theater" and "Digital Design."

In addition to UO President Dave Frohnmayer’s formal welcome, there will be many opportunities for current UO honors students to provide their own perspectives to the attendees. A social reception at the end of the day will provide a time for visitors, faculty, staff and current students to mingle in a relaxed atmosphere.
