EUGENE–An informal evening of dances by Pamela Geber, visiting assistant professor of dance, will close the 1998-99 dance performance season at the University of Oregon.

"Variations," a free studio concert featuring two group works and two solos, will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 4, in the Dougherty Dance Theatre at the Gerlinger Annex, 1484 University St. on campus. Seating is limited.

Geber will premiere "In the Glass House," created for UO dance students Pei-Yi Cheng, Laura Nash and Sierra Woods. Set to the rumblings of party conversations and sounds, the threesome’s dark and striking relationships are revealed during the piece.

"ABABA," danced by Cheng, Sarah Baker, Paige McKinney and Nichole Spates, blends the current trends of hip-hop movement with Mozart’s playful third movement of "Sinfonia Concertante in E flat for Violin, Viola and Orchestra."

Geber’s first solo piece, "Anon," explores ebbs and flows in the perception of time. It is danced to the deep and resonant voice of Lisa Gerrard.

Set to two traditional cabaret pieces, "No Rain Date" is a comical swirl of rolls and quirky gestures. This solo was originally choreographed and performed in 1990 at the Gowanus Arts Exchange in New York City.

Geber, a UO dance faculty member during the 1998-99 and 1999-00 academic years, is a recent graduate of the University of Washington Master of Fine Arts program in dance. Her performance credits include work with New York choreographers Sara Rudner, Wendy Perron, David Gordon, Doug Varone, Mark Dendy, Zvi Gotheiner, Fred Darsow and Risa Jaraslow.

Recently, Geber performed reconstructions choreographed by Alwin Nikolais, Vaslav Njinsky and Doris Humphrey. She taught modern and creative dance to children at the Gowanus Arts Exchange in Brooklyn and New York City.

At the University of Oregon, Geber teaches classes in intermediate and advanced modern and jazz technique and improvisation. She also is co-director of the UO Repertory Dance Company.
