EUGENE– Two choral concerts and a percussion concert are scheduled this week at the University of Oregon School of Music, 961 E. 18th Ave.

Tuesday, June 1–UO Men’s Chorus and Women’s Chorus

The UO Men’s and Women’s Chorus will share a concert for their final spring program at
8 p.m. in Beall Concert Hall, 961 E. 18th Ave. Admission is free.

The Women’s Chorus, directed by Graduate Teaching Fellow Misook Yun, will sing "And Nature Smiled" and "Dance on My Heart" by Allen Koepke, "Down By the Riverside" by Brant Adams, "Scherzo" by Paul Goldstaub and "Kenya Melodies" arranged by Robert Hugh.

The Men’s Chorus, directed by Graduate Teaching Fellow Genaro Mendez, will perform "The Seeds of Love" by Ralph Vaughan Williams, "Man is for the Woman Made" by Henry Purcell, "Ave verum corpus" by Charles Gounod and the spiritual "All My Trials, Lord."

Thursday, June 3–University Singers and UO Chamber Choir

The University Singers and UO Chamber Choir each will perform in a concert beginning at
8 p.m. in Beall Concert Hall. Tickets, available at the door, are $5 general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens.

The University Singers, under the direction of Associate Professor Richard Clark, will sing "Ave Maria" for male voices by Franz Biebl, "Pueri Haebreorum" for treble choirs by Randall Thompson, "Sixty-Seventh Psalm" by Charles Ives, "Ngana" an Australian piece by Stephen Leek, "Psalm Ninety-One" by Felix Mendelssohn and "Five Flower Songs" by Benjamin Britten.

The Chamber Choir, conducted by Graduate Teaching Fellow John Jantzi, will perform songs by Hugo Distler, "Sweet Day" by Ralph Vaughan Williams and "Due North," a cycle of five songs by Stephen Chatman.

Friday, June 4–Japanese Marimba Concert

Seven percussionists from the Oregon Percussion Ensemble will present "An Evening of Japanese Marimba Music" at 8 p.m. in Room 198 of the music school. Tickets, available at the door, are $5 general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens.

The program, under the direction of Professor Charles Dowd, will feature works by marimba virtuoso Keiko Abe, as well as those of Akira Miyoshi and Toshimitsu Tanaka. Twentieth-century Japanese marimba compositions are known worldwide for their unique style, often mirroring modern Japanese painting and sculpture in their use of dynamic tension and release.

The seven performers–Tracy Freeze, Brenda Lauffenberger, David Burrow, David Constantine, Julie Bounds, John Kalny and Michael Smith–all are students of Dowd and of W. Sean Wagoner.
