EUGENE–Newly admitted students who will attend the University of Oregon for the first time this fall can get an early orientation to campus life this summer during a series of two-day IntroDUCKtion programs.

To take advantage of this opportunity, which includes reserving appointments with their advisers and pre-registering for fall-term classes, the new students must sign up by Friday, June 18.

More than 3,500 students and parents are expected to participate in the programs during July, according to Kris Winter, UO orientation director.

"IntroDUCKtion helps new freshmen and transfer students become acquainted with the campus, meet new students and faculty, and receive academic advising," Winter says. "They also register for fall classes without waiting until September."

Five two-day IntroDUCKtion sessions are set July 8—9, 11—12, 15—16, 18—19 and 22—23 for freshmen. Transfer students are welcome July 14 for a one-day program.

Registration for all two-day sessions is tentatively set from 10—11:30 a.m. on the first day in the lounge of Henderson Hall at the Bean Residence Hall Complex, East 15th Avenue on the UO campus. Check-in time is 7:15—8:30 a.m. for the one-day program July 14, also in the Henderson Hall lounge.

The sessions include special presentations and informal discussions with faculty members, administrators and current UO students, addressing questions and concerns of students and parents. Topics range from financial aid and university and community resources to career services and international exchange opportunities.

Also set are placement testing, tours of campus living groups, and interest group sessions.

The participation fee for the two-day sessions is part of a one-time matriculation fee that all new students pay in the fall. The cost for parents is $35 per person.

Housing in UO residence halls is available for $18 per person or in nearby motels and hotels at various rates.

Dinner on the first day and an outdoor lunch on the second day are included in the basic IntroDUCKtion fee. Additional meals may be purchased in the residence halls or at campus-area restaurants.
