Sunday, Dec. 3University Percussion Ensemble
The University Percussion Ensemble, directed by Sean Wagoner, will give a concert titled "Mostly Lou Harrison" at 1 p.m. in Room 198 of the Music Building, 971 E. 18th Ave. Tickets, available at the door, are $5 general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens.
Selections by Harrison, one of the acclaimed American composers of the 20th century, include "Suite," "Canticle No. 3," "Fifth Simfony" and "Bomba." The ensemble also will perform a marimba transcription of Telemanns "Concerto in D Major for Four Violins."
Sunday, Dec. 3Holiday Choral Concert
Four university choirs will present a Holiday Choral Concert beginning at 2:30 p.m. in Beall Hall. Tickets, available at the door, are $5 general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens.
The University Singers, Chamber Choir, Womens Chorus and Mens Chorus each will perform, and the audience is invited to join in a carol sing-along during the transition from one ensemble to another. Conductors are Associate Professor Sharon Paul, Associate Professor Kathryn Olson, and Graduate Teaching Fellows Genaro Mendez and Lesa Jacobsen.
The program includes a wide range of sacred and secular works for the season, including "Deck the Halls in 7/8," "Three Spanish Carols," "O Tannenbaum," "This Christmastide" by Donald Fraser, "O Magnum Mysterium" by Morten Lauridsen and "The Boars Head Carol," as well as selections from Benjamin Brittens "Ceremony of Carols."
Sunday, Dec. 3Gospel Ensembles
The University Gospel Ensemble, Gospel Choir and Gospel Singers, all under the direction of Cedric Weary, will perform a variety of traditional and contemporary gospel music at 6 p.m. in the Ballroom of the Erb Memorial Union, 1222 E. 13th Ave. Tickets, available at the door, are $5 general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens.
The performance will feature "Pray" by Andre Crouch, "Try Him and Be Grateful" by Edwin and Walter Hawkins, "Movin On" and "You Are the Only One" by Kirk Franklin, "Spirit" by Sounds of Blackness, as well as gospel hits from the Chicago Mass Choir, Ron Summers and The Imani Project.
Featured instrumentalists in the Gospel Band are Jason Palmer, Mark Schneider, Scott Ruby, Ehren Ebbage, Corwin Bolt, Thierry Renoux, Devin Sanders and Alex Cooper.
The UO Vocal Jazz Choir, under the direction of Jason Caffarella, also will make a guest appearance on the concert.
