EUGENE--The sounds of original computer compositions, symphonic repertoire, vocal jazz stylings and band music will fill performance spaces this week at the University of Oregon School of Music, 961 E. 18th Ave.

Saturday, Nov. 22--Future Music Oregon

Future Music Oregon, the Computer Music Center at the UO School of Music, will give a concert at 8 p.m. in Room 198 of the Music Building, 961 E. 18th Ave. Tickets, available at the door, are $5 general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens.

Among the compositions to be presented are new works created in the Future Music Oregon studios, as well as pieces for live-performance instruments and Yamaha Disklavier. Under the guidance of Associate Professor Jeffrey Stolet, composers working in the Future Music Oregon studios have been tremendously successful at having their works presented at national and international computer music events.

Sunday, Nov. 23--University Symphony

The University Symphony, under the baton of Professor Wayne Bennett, will give its fall concert at 2:30 p.m. in Beall Concert Hall. Tickets, available at the door, are $5 general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens.

The program includes "Symphonic Dances" by Grieg, "Notturno for Strings" by Dvorak, "Petite Suite" by Debussy and "Symphony No. 1" by Beethoven.

Also on the concert is Telemann's "Viola Concerto" featuring Associate Professor Leslie Straka. A member of the UO faculty since 1987, Straka has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States and Europe. She has been a featured artist at the Luzerne Chamber Music Center in New York, Festival Miami, the Miami Bach Society, the Red Lodge Festival in Montana, the Mainly Mozart and Flagstaff festivals in Arizona, and the York Festival in England.

Monday, Nov. 24--Vocal Jazz Ensemble

The Vocal Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Assistant Professor Sid Haton, will perform at 8 p.m. in Beall Concert Hall. Tickets, available at the door, are $5 general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens.

The concert will feature the full vocal ensemble, some smaller groups and soloists performing music from a variety of styles.

Tuesday, Nov. 25--UO Campus Band

The UO Campus Band, under the direction of Graduate Teaching Fellow Timothy Reynolds, will give its fall concert at 8 p.m. in Beall Concert Hall. Admission is free.
