EUGENE--Bidders at the 22nd annual Photography at Oregon Auction on Sunday, Nov. 23, will have the chance to own a print by such nationally known photographers as Christopher Burkett, Edna Bullock, Ruth Bernhard and Shedrich Williames. During the free public event, more than 100 donated photographs by 130 recognized photographers will go on the auction block to benefit the University of Oregon Museum of Art. Prints will be available for viewing at noon in the Alumni Lounge of Gerlinger Hall, 1468 University St. on campus. Oral bidding will begin at 1 p.m. with Sid Voorhees as auctioneer. The photographs, on display through Saturday, Nov. 22, at the UO Museum of Art, 1430 Johnson Lane, range from figure studies to assemblages to landscapes. Visitors also can obtain a catalog of the works at the museum prior to the auction. Organized each year by the museum's Photography at Oregon Committee, the exhibition and auction support photography exhibitions and programs at the Museum of Art, including the museum's current exhibition, "Water: The Renewable Metaphor." The Museum of Art, accessible to people with disabilities, is open from noon-8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon-5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Admission is a $3 suggested donation, but it is free from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday during the weekly MusEvenings! The UO Museum of Art's 1997-98 exhibitions and programs are supported in part by a grant from the Oregon Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts. For more information about the Photography at Oregon auction and exhibition, call (541) 346-3027.
