EUGENE–A University of Oregon expert on Asian art will explore the ancient art and archaeology of the Altay Mountains of Mongolia in a slide lecture at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24, in Room 115 of Lawrence Hall, 1190 Franklin Blvd.

Esther Jacobson-Tepfer, the Maude I. Kerns Professor in the UO Department of Art History, will present "Measuring Time, Ordering Space: Rock Art, Altars and Standing Stones in the Altay Mountains of Mongolia." The talk will explore the interconnection between order on Earth and order in the heavens as reflected in the great stone altars, standing stones and rock carvings of that region.

Jacobson-Tepfer encourages anyone interested in art, archaeology, ethnography and natural history to attend the free lecture. A reception will follow.

A specialist in the art of Inner Asia, Jacobson-Tepfer has spent the past five summers in the Altay Mountains of Mongolia. Along with Mongolian and Russian colleagues, she has discovered, explored and documented, much of it for the first time, the ancient art and archaeology of that region.

For more information on the lecture, contact the School of Architecture and Allied Arts at (541) 346-3631 or send e-mail to aaarecep@aaa.uoregon.edu.
