EUGENECentral Oregon real estate developer Michael L. "Mick" Humphreys heads the University of Oregon Foundation Board of Trustees as 1998-99 president.
Humphreys, 56, a 1964 UO economics graduate, replaces Gretchen Hult Pierce in the position. Pierce, president of Hult and Associates of Eugene and a 1966 UO marketing graduate, serves as board chairman this year.
Humphreys has been a UO Foundation trustee since 1990 and served as chairman of an early planning committee for The Oregon Campaign. He is also a member of the Lundquist College of Business Advisory Council. Captain of the Duck mens golf team when he was in college, Humphreys has been a major contributor to the Oregon golf program.
In addition to his real estate development business in Central Oregon, Humphreys is co- founder and partner of Vintage Properties in Palo Alto, Calif.
Involved in various philanthropic activities in support of education and church organizations, Humphreys recently persuaded Montana industrialist Dennis Washington to donate the former Rajneeshpuram ranch near Antelope, Ore., as a national camp for Young Life, a Christian organization for young people. The 65,000-acre ranch, valued at about $20 million, contains a shopping center, an airport, a hotel and living quarters with 1,350 bedrooms. Humphreys is also a member of a local action committee that will plan and design the camp, which is set to open in the summer of 1999.
Humphreys and his wife, Judith, have three children and live on a ranch near Bend.
The 48-member UO Foundation Board of Trustees oversees operation of the foundation, a private, nonprofit corporation established by the Oregon Legislature in 1957 to support fund-raising activities of the University of Oregon and to receive and administer private gifts and grants to the university.
