EUGENEVisitors of all ages can have their photos taken while telling Santa their holiday wishes during the annual Holiday Open House from noon4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, at the University of Oregon Museum of Art, 1430 Johnson Lane.
This years free public event, entitled "Frontier Family Day," will offer music by country fiddlers Amberly and Ariana Rosen, and music for the season by the Motet Singers.
In support of Food for Lane County, visitors are asked to bring a can of food and then enter a door-prize drawing for a gingerbread museum by The Sweet Life Patisserie.
All afternoon, children will be able to participate in a variety of hands-on activities including printmaking and frame decorating.
During the open house, visitors also may view the museums current exhibitions, "C.S. Price: Landscape, Image and Spirit" and "Changing Perspectives on Modernism," and may participate in activities in the C.S. Price Discovery Room, an interactive exhibition for children of all ages.
Lisa Abia-Smith, director of educational outreach for the museum, believes the afternoons activities will offer something for everyone of all ages and cultures to enjoy.
"We want to emphasize that this is not only the season of giving, but also a time for reconnecting with our roots, an idea which ties in with the current exhibition on C.S. Price, who came of age on the Western frontier," she says.
A nationally accredited facility, the UO Museum of Art is accessible to people with disabilities. It is open from noon8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. The museum requests a $3 suggested donation, but admission is free during the weekly MusEvenings! extended viewing hours from 58 p.m. on Wednesday.
