Sunday, Dec. 6Holiday Choral Concert
Four university choirs will present a Holiday Choral Concert at 4 p.m. in Beall Concert Hall, 961 E. 18th Ave. Tickets, available at the door, are $5 general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens.
The University Singers, Chamber Choir, Womens Chorus and Mens Chorus each will perform, and the audience is invited to join in a carol sing-along during the transition from one ensemble to another. Conductors are Professor James Miller, Associate Professor Richard Clark, and Graduate Teaching Fellows Angelo Dias and Misook Yun.
The program includes four Eastern European carols, "Ave Maria" by Gustav Holst, Rachmaninoffs "Rejoice Oh Virgin," "In Excelsis Gloria," "Sing We Noel," "Hode Christus Natus Est" for double choir, and the traditional "Boars Head Carol" arranged by Robert Shaw.
Sunday, Dec. 6Contemporary Music Concert
The Hundredth Monkey Ensemble, a new student group, will perform new contemporary music at 8 p.m. in Room 186 of the Music Building, 961 E. 18th Ave. Admission is free.
The program, which contains some theatrical elements and improvisatory material, is by graduate composers at the School of Music. The ensemble is made up entirely of graduate students David Burrow, percussion; Jared Burrows, guitar and clarinet; Daniel Heila, flutes and guitars; Kevin Hoferer, saxes and flute; Alex Kelly, cello; Elyzabeth Meade, vocals and electric violinola; Rebecca Oswald, piano and vocals; and Jeffrey Radcliffe, horn.
The musicians formed the Hundredth Monkey Ensemble as a vehicle to try out new music created by members of the group, and the styles of music range from accessible to highly adventurous.
