EUGENE–The University of Oregon Department of Dance will present "View Points," featuring choreography and performances by visiting professor Pamela Geber, adjunct instructor Kim Christensen and guest artist Eric Handman, on Nov. 19—20 in the Dougherty Dance Theatre at Gerlinger Annex, 1484 University St.

The two concerts, part of the UO School of Music’s "Festival of the Millennium: Music for the New Century…and Beyond," are scheduled for 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19, and at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20. Both will include post-performance discussions with the artists after each show.

Located on the third floor of the Gerlinger Annex, the theater space will be reconfigured for "View Points" to provide limited, three-sided seating. General admission is $3. Tickets will be available at the door prior to each performance.

Set to the rumblings of party conversations and electronic sounds, "In the Glass House" will be danced by UO students Pei-Yi Cheng, Laura Nash and Sierra Woods. Striking relationships among the threesome are revealed in the work.

Ten students will dance a group piece by Geber, accompanied by the melodic and percussive sounds of the Kronos Quartet. Large frames will be manipulated in space to create different perspectives for the audience to view the tumbling movers.

Choreographed and performed by Geber and Handman, "Your Eyes Bestowing Their Gaze on Me" is a tender duet with intricate partnering, set to the art songs of Reynaldo Hahn.

Local talents Meagan Orion and David Koteen will be featured in Christensen’s untitled work. Group sections are interrupted by duets and performed to music by Marilyn Manson and Astor Piazzola.

"The Importance of the Song," a second piece by Christensen, blends the movement of 10 students with music by Beethoven to explore the dynamics of human interactions.

A graduate of the University of Washington Master of Fine Arts program in dance, Geber has taught modern, jazz and improvisation classes at the University of Oregon since 1998. She is co-director of the UO Repertory Dance Company and performed with Sara Rudner this past summer in New York City.

For five years, Christensen has performed with Eugene’s Van Ummersen Dance Company while teaching and choreographing for Willamette University. During the 1999-2000 academic year, Christensen is teaching classes in modern, tap and jazz at the University of Oregon.

Recent performance credits for Handman include company positions with Doug Varone and Dancers, nicholasleichterdance, and Joy Kellman & Company. At Dance Space, Inc., NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and Skidmore College, Handman taught modern classes. Currently, he teaches dance at Lane Community College and in the community.

"View Points" will be produced by students in Jenifer Craig’s Dance Production class, with assistance from technical director Amy Impellizzeri. For further information, call the Department of Dance, (541) 346-3386.
