EUGENEVisitors of all ages can have their photos taken with the UO Duck and Santa during the annual Holiday Open House from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, at the University of Oregon Museum of Art, 1430 Johnson Lane.
This years free holiday open house, entitled "Holidays Around the World," will offer music for the season by All for a Lark, a Renaissance choir, and by the Motet Singers. Refreshments will be provided.
Throughout the afternoon, people of all ages will be able to participate in a variety of hands-on activities including making holiday cards, ornaments and picture frames. Funding for this program was provided by Symantec Corp.
During the open house, visitors also may view the museums current exhibition, "18 Points of View," a display of contemporary artwork by UO fine and applied arts faculty members which continues through Jan. 2, 2000.
Lisa Abia-Smith, director of education and outreach for the museum, believes the afternoons activities will offer something to enjoy for people of all ages and cultures.
"This is an excellent opportunity for families to get together and take a moment to participate in holiday activities from around the world," she says.
In support of Food for Lane County, visitors are asked to bring a can of food when they enter. Anyone who donates 10 cans will receive a free Family Membership to the museum. Also scheduled is a door-prize drawing for a gingerbread museum.
A nationally accredited facility, the UO Museum of Art is accessible to people with disabilities. It is open from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. The museum suggests a $3 donation, but admission is free during the weekly MusEvenings! program and extended viewing hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays. Museum members, students, UO employees and children are always admitted free.
During the holidays, the museum will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 23 and be closed Dec. 2425. It also will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 30 and be closed Dec. 31Jan. 1.
