EUGENE–The traditional holiday choral concert–with the ever-popular carol sing-along for audience members– and a percussion ensemble performance are scheduled this week to wrap-up the fall term concert season at the University of Oregon School of Music, 961 E. 18th Ave.

Sunday, Dec. 5–University Percussion Ensemble

The University Percussion Ensemble, conducted by Graduate Teaching Fellow Sean Wagoner, will perform a variety of percussion selections at 1 p.m. in Room 198 of the Music Building, 961 E. 18th Ave. Tickets, available at the door, are $5 general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens.

The program includes "Stained Glass" for percussion ensemble by David Gillingham, "Wind in the Bamboo Grove" for solo marimba by Keiko Abe, "No. 33" for percussion quintet by John Bergamo, "Symphony No. 1" for percussion octet by Anthony Cirone and a transcription from Hadyn’s "String Quartet No. 5."

Sunday, Dec. 5–Holiday Choral Concert

Four university choirs will present a Holiday Choral Concert at 4 p.m. in Beall Hall. Tickets, available at the door, are $5 general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens.

The University Singers, Chamber Choir, Women’s Chorus and Men’s Chorus each will perform, and the audience is invited to join in a carol sing-along during the transition from one ensemble to another. Conductors are Associate Professor Richard Clark, Assistant Professor Kathryn Olson and Graduate Teaching Fellows Genaro Mendez and Joanne McDade.

The program includes both sacred and secular works for the season, including "Magnificat" by Donald Kendrick; "Choose Something Like a Star" by Randall Thompson, based on a Robert Frost poem; "Fum, Fum, Fum"; "I Saw Three Ships" for piano, bells and chimes; the Austrian folk tune "Still, Still, Still"; and "Mary Had a Baby" by William Dawson.

Also on the program will be "Carol of the Seekers" and a new arrangement of "Pat-a-Pan," both by UO graduate composer Rebecca Oswald, as well as the Israeli folksong "Ya Ba Bom" and "Y’susum Midbar" from the Zimrei Chayim–Songs of Life.
