EUGENEThe Eugene Recorder Ensemble will perform from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 12, in the throne room of the University of Oregon Museum of Art, 1430 Johnson Lane.
The ensemble, a group of 12 musicians who have performed together since 1978, will play festive holiday music ranging from the Renaissance to the contemporary. Among the works to be performed will be several pieces from the Renaissance organist and Dutch composer Jan Sweelinck.
Randal Smith, a member of the Eugene Recorder Ensemble, describes their music as "organ like akin to the wood flute of the organ."
A nationally accredited facility, the UO Museum of Art is accessible to people with disabilities. It is open from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. The museum suggests a $3 donation, but admission is free during the weekly MusEvenings! program and extended viewing hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays. Museum members, students, UO employees and children are always admitted free.
During the holidays, the museum will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 23 and be closed Dec. 2428. It also will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 30 and be closed Dec. 31Jan. 1.
The UO Museum of Art recently unveiled schematic plans for a $12 million renovation and expansion to nearly double the size of the existing building.
The need for this project stems from a period when public participation in the museum has reached an all-time high. Quarterly exhibitions, extended hours, family-targeted activities and educational programming all have contributed to a nearly 40 percent increase in annual visitations since last year.
