University of Oregon students will get a rapid-fire pop quiz on any subject from poetry and biology to sports and current events when the preliminary rounds of this year’s College Bowl get underway at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 9—10, in the Ballroom of the Erb Memorial Union, 1222 E. 13th Ave. The four most knowledgeable student teams–and the quickest to ring in with the correct answers–will compete in the College Bowl campus finals at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16, in the EMU Ballroom. UO faculty and staff volunteers will officiate as well as read questions for the double-elimination tournament. The winning UO team will go to the regional competition to be hosted in February at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash. Depending on how well they fare at the regionals, the Ducks even may advance to the national finals. The last time a UO team placed in a national contest was 1993. College Bowl is an annual competition sponsored locally by the Erb Memorial Union, UO Athletic Department and Coke. Nationally, the "varsity sport of the mind" is sponsored by the College Bowl Corp., Inc., and by the Association of College Unions International.
