EDUCATION NOTES

EUGENE--Two prestigious scientific organizations have recognized University of Oregon professors Greg Retallack and Russell Lande as fellows.

Retallack, a professor of geography and geology, will be inducted as a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). He will receive an official certificate recognizing the contributions of his research to the field at the fellows Forum during the AAAS annual meeting in Philadelphia next year.

Ecology and biology professor Russell Lande is now among the fellows of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Lande was one of 148 new fellows, all chosen in recognition of their distinguished contributions to science, scholarship, public affairs and art. Lande, also the recipient of a 1997 MacArthur Foundation grant, known informally as the "genius grant," specializes in the field of quantitative genetics.
