NEW BEALL HALL SEATS, REFURBISHED LOBBY TO BE UNVEILED OCT. 19

Oct. 17, 1997

A pre-concert dedication of its new seats and newly refurbished lobby will inaugurate the 30th season of the University of Oregon School of Music's celebrated Chamber Music Series on Sunday, Oct. 19. The 6:45 p.m. dedication ceremony will take place in the restored lobby of the 75-year-old Beall Concert Hall, 961 E. 18th Ave. Music Dean Anne Dhu McLucas and several key music school supporters will speak. The new seats and lobby restoration were paid for by the university, music school and $300-apiece seat sponsorships of alumni, patrons, faculty and other friends of the music school. The armrest of each seat bears an inset plaque acknowledging the donor or someone the donor has chosen to honor. Many are memorial tributes to former music faculty. Other improvements include new carpeting in Beall Hall and the lobby, new sofas and light fixtures, and a new, four-color paint scheme highlighting the lobby's 1920s architectural detail. Begun by former UO music professor Edmund Cykler, the Chamber Music Series will open its 30th season at 8 p.m. Sunday in Beall Concert Hall with the Raphael Ensemble, a renowned string sextet from England.
