EUGENE–Merv Loya, assistant dean and assistant professor at the University of Oregon School of Law, is the new president of the Lane County Bar Association.

Loya was elected to serve as Lane County Bar president for 1998-99 and as such is a member of the Oregon State Bar’s House of Delegates. He also is a member of the Oregon State Bar’s Legal Services Program Committee.

Loya joined the UO law school in 1986 where he teaches workshops in legislative issues and works in career services. Previously, Loya worked in administration and management with a prominent Eugene law firm, served as the executive director of the Lane County legal services program, and as a consultant to the National Legal Services Corporation.

Loya earned his B.A. from Monmouth College in Illinois. in 1962, his M.A. from Columbia University in 1964, and his J.D. degree from the University of Illinois in 1967. He was admitted to the Oregon State Bar in 1968.
