EUGENE–Students can party safely into the wee hours this Halloween, courtesy of the University of Oregon.

The UO is turning the Erb Memorial Union (EMU), 1222 E. 13th Ave., into "Halloween Central" on Saturday, Oct. 31, and is offering a host of treats (no tricks) including a tailgater, party, movie, costume contest, prizes and free late-night snacks. A party and dance also will be held at the Dining Center in Carson Hall, 1450 E. 13th Ave.

"We think it’s important to give our students places to go where they can celebrate Halloween and have fun in a safe, alcohol-free environment," says Laura Blake Jones, associate dean, UO Office of Student Life.

The fun begins at 3 p.m. at the EMU and includes:

3—7 p.m.

Tailgate party, UO vs. Arizona, Food Court, EMU. Big-screen televisions; 50 cent pizza, hot dogs and soda, and half-price sub sandwiches; free half-time drawing for two 50-yard line tickets to the UO-Washington home game, Nov. 7, and two UO Bookstore gift certificates.

9 p.m.—1 a.m.

"Eat, Drink and Be Scary" dance with costume and swing dance contests and prizes. Carson Hall. Student ID required.

10:30 p.m.—2 a.m.

"Rocky Horror Picture Show" with pre-film contests and prizes. Free for UO students in costume; $3 for students without costume; $5 for general public.

Midnight—2 a.m.

Free late-night treats include coffee, cider and donuts. Recreation Center, lower level, EMU. Prize drawing for UO Bookstore certificates.

In addition, both The Buzz coffee house and adjoining Recreation Center in the EMU will stay open all day Saturday and until 2 a.m. Sunday.

The events are sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Student Life, EMU Cultural Forum and Recreation Center, Student Activities Resources Office, University Housing and the Office of Intercollegiate Athletics.

The UO Office of Public Safety and Eugene Police Department are reminding students to party safely, and that they will be strictly enforcing laws and regulations, including those related to alcohol use.
