UO LECTURE SERIES FOCUSES ON FAMILY THERAPY ISSUES

EUGENEDomestic violence. Adolescent depression. Sex and intimacy.
These issuesdaily fare for family counselors, educators and social workerswill be explored at a series of lunchtime talks sponsored by the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at the University of Oregon College of Education.
Each of the lectures will begin at noon on the first Thursday of every month beginning Nov. 4 and ending April 6. All of the talks will be in the Ballroom of the Downtown Athletic Club, 999 Willamette St., Eugene.
Topics and speakers include:
Thursday, Nov. 4, "New Lights on the Dark Side of Marriage," by Robert Weiss, UO professor emeritus of psychology.
Thursday, Dec. 2, "Treatment of Adolescent Depression," by UO psychology professors Ann Simons and Paul Rohde.
Thursday, Jan. 6, "Working with Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Couples: Couples and Counselors Issues," by Shoshana Kerewsky, a Eugene psychologist in private practice.
Thursday, Feb. 3, "The Impact of Domestic Violence on Children: Lane Countys Response," by Elaine Walters, coordinator of the Domestic Violence Intervention Project for PeaceHealths Oregon region; Lynn Schroeder, intake unit supervisor with the Lane County Department of Youth Services; and Paula Michaud, a certified education training officer with the Oregon Office for Services to Children and Families.
Thursday, March 2, "Trial Trauma: Domestic Violence in the Courtroom," by Jennifer Self, a family violence specialist with Lane County Crime Victim and Survivors Services, and Kamala Shugar, Lane County assistant district attorney.
Thursday, April 6, "Treating Sex and Intimacy Concerns," by Wendy and Larry Maltz, co-directors of Maltz Counseling Associates in Eugene.
Registration for the full series, which includes lunches, is $69 for the general public and $49 for students. Single-session registration is $15.
