EUGENE Homecoming and Fall Family Weekend audiences this week can enjoy four concerts offering symphonic sounds, vocal poetry, low-brass repertoire and a potpourri of performances by top student ensembles at the University of Oregon School of Music, 961 E. 18th Ave.

Sunday, Oct. 24University Symphony Orchestra
The University Symphony, under the direction of Professor Wayne Bennett, will give an afternoon concert at 3 p.m. in Beall Concert Hall, 961 E. 18th Ave. Tickets, available at the door, are $5 general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens.
A free pre-concert talk, with graduate student Michael Walker giving insights on the program repertoire, is set for 2:15 p.m. in Room 198 of the Music Building.
Selections on the program include Bartoks "Miraculous Mandarin Suite," Enescos "Rumanian Rhapsody No. 1" and Schumanns "Concertstucke" for four horns and orchestra. Featured hornists will be Ellen Campbell, David Kruse, Edward McManus and Douglas Campbell.
Ellen Campbell is on the UO music faculty, while her husband, Douglas Campbell, is professor emeritus at Michigan State. McManus is on the Lane Community College music faculty and is principal horn with the Eugene Symphony, and Kruse is principal horn with the Eugene Opera and the Sunriver Music Festival.
Monday, Oct. 25UO Voice Class Recital: "Poetry in Song"
Vocal performance majors at the School of Music will present a group recital titled "Poetry in Song" at 7 p.m. in Beall Concert Hall. Admission is free.
The performance is the first of three in a series of "Poetry in Song" recitals. Others are scheduled in February and May.
The performers are graduate and undergraduate students from the studios of voice faculty members Ann Tedards, Mark Beudert and Milagro Vargas.
Wednesday, Oct. 27OcTUBAfest
A special version of "The Bremen Town Musicians," narrated by longtime local radio personality Wendy Ray, will be one of the highlights of the School of Musics annual OcTUBAfest at 8 p.m. in Beall Concert Hall. Tickets, available at the door, are $5 general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens.
The program features tuba and euphonium selections performed by members of the UO Tuba Choir, directed by Richard Frazier, and members of the Oregon Tuba Association, directed by Jeff Turay. Frazier has included both traditional classics and popular music on the program, including selections by Henry Purcell, Johann Sebastian Bach, Camille Saint-Saens, Antonio Vivaldi, John Williams and John Philip Sousa.
Friday, Oct. 29Homecoming Concert
The School of Musics annual Homecoming Concert welcomes alumni, parents and students with a Fall Family Weekend program that features four of the schools top ensembles in a 7 p.m. concert in Beall Concert Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.
The University Symphony, conducted by Professor Wayne Bennett, will perform Coplands "Saturday Night Waltz" from "Rodeo" and "Rumanian Rhapsody No. 1" by Enesco.
The University Singers, directed by Associate Professor Richard Clark, will perform "The Lamb" by John Tavener, "The Beatitudes" by Arvo Pärt, "I Will Sing of Life" by Adolphus Hailstork and "So Ill Sing with My Voice" by Dominick Argento.
The Oregon Wind Ensemble, directed by Timothy Reynolds, will play "The Sword and The Crown" by Edward Gregson, and the Oregon Jazz Ensemble, led by graduate teaching fellow Pat Dixon, will perform several contemporary jazz selections.
