EUGENE–Veteran designer Mike Holcomb, a member of the University of Oregon fine arts faculty, will give a free gallery talk at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 3, in the Museum of Art,
1430 Johnson Lane on the UO campus.

His talk about the importance of teaching as well as his creative endeavors will be presented in conjunction with the Museum of Art’s current exhibition, "18 Points of View," which showcases artworks by UO fine and applied arts faculty members. The exhibition continues through Jan. 2, 2000.

According to Holcomb, "My obligation in [teaching] is to make sure my students have and understand the critical, conceptual and technical tools needed to begin their great adventure. I work very hard to help my students develop portfolios that truly represent their individual interests and abilities and that will open doors to creative professional careers."

Holcomb, an associate professor of visual design, has been a designer for more than 30 years, working in multimedia, television and graphic design. His work has been exhibited and published around the county. Recipient of a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Oregon, he currently is director of the UO New Media Center in the Riverfront Research Park.

Open from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, the Museum of Art is accessible to people with disabilities. Suggested admission is $3, except on Wednesdays when the MusEvenings! program offers free programming, refreshments and extended viewing hours from 5—8 p.m. Museum members, students with ID, UO employees and children are admitted free.
