EUGENE–Local middle school students can find out first hand what it’s like to work as a health care professional at "Career MED," a career fair tailored for sixth, seventh and eighth graders.

Career MED participants can quiz a doctor and query nurses about what it takes to do their jobs. They can also discover what’s involved in less well-known health careers such as physical therapy, sports medicine, health research, echocardiology and nutrition.

Youth Enrichment and Talented and Gifted Programs (TAG), programs of the University of Oregon College of Education, are co-sponsoring the health career fair with PeaceHealth Medical Center.

Career MED will run from 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, a statewide in-service day for teachers. Students will not attend school that day. Sessions will be held at Sacred Heart Hospital and the University of Oregon campus.

Attendance is limited to the first 120 students to register. The $20 registration fee includes lunch.

To obtain more information or to register, students can pick up a brochure at their school office or contact the UO’s Youth Enrichment and TAG program at 346-3084.
