EUGENE–The free "University Theatre Showcase" on Friday, Sept. 25, will feature the talents of student performers and offer a preview of the 1998—99 University Theatre season to new and returning students and community members.

The special performance, part of the University of Oregon’s Week of Welcome orientation activities for new students, will begin at 8 p.m. in Robinson Theatre at Villard Hall, 1190 Old Campus Lane on campus. Free parking is available nearby in the lot at East 11th Avenue and Kincaid Street.

"The showcase features information about the upcoming Robinson Theatre season and the Arena Theatre’s Second Season as well entertaining performances," says Joseph Gilg, University Theatre’s development director.

In addition to ticket, T-shirt and poster giveaways, the special event offers fast-paced performance featuring UO students reprising their roles in selected scenes from recent University Theatre productions.

Included will be last season’s "Two Gentlemen of Verona," the Shakespeare comedy currently on tour to nine Oregon communities. University Theatre will reprise its performances of "Two Gentlemen of Verona" Oct. 1—3 in the Robinson Theatre.

In addition, students will perform various scenes and monologues from the UO theater department’s acting classes.
