BACKGROUND
Construction on the law center began in June of 1997 and it was officially opened in
May of 1999.
The 138,000-square-foot-facility contains eight classrooms, a 200-seat auditorium, three meeting rooms, 87 offices, one moot courtroom, eight group study rooms and 10 individual study rooms.
A state-of-the art computer lab and 1,000 computer hookups throughout the building provide connectivity to on-line information data bases, on-line classes and live video teleconferencing.
The new 35,000-square-foot library doubles the previous law library space, making it possible to store the entire law library collection.
Design and construction cost of the center, approximately $26 million, is privately financed with $10.3 million from the sale of state bonds and $15.3 million from gifts and grants.
The new UO law building is named in honor of 1932 UO law school graduate William W. Knight, whose son, Philip Knight, committed $10 million to the law school building project.
