EUGENEA new exhibit at the University of Oregons Laverne Krause Gallery will offer rare insights into the way internationally acclaimed Portland architect Pietro Belluschi approached design.
Belluschi was the architect of more than 40 churches and synagogues in Oregon, including Central Lutheran Church in Eugene.
The exhibit at the UOs Laverne Krause Gallery will open Monday, Sept. 20 and remain on display through Sunday, Oct. 10. The gallery, located in 101 Lawrence Hall, 1190 Franklin Blvd., is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The exhibit features a series of sketches and renderings that illustrate the connections between Belluschis first church design, St. Thomas More Catholic Church, and his last churches designed in the 1980s.
These original drawings are in ink and pencil. Each begins with a basic concept and then works through several detailed revisions.
The UO Department of Architecture and the UO School of Architecture and Allied Arts are co-sponsors of the exhibit along with the Portland Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and the Architectural Foundation of Oregon.
The UO School of Architecture and Allied Arts honors Belluschi annually through an endowed professorship. Belluschi, who is credited with establishing a Northwest regional style of architecture, was one of the most honored architects in Oregon.
