The Janacek Chamber Orchestra is among the leading ensembles of its type in the Czech Republic, and it has drawn the highest international acclaim. Founded in 1964, the orchestra comprises 12 leading string musicians from the Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra, led by violinist Zdenek Dejmek. In addition to standard repertoire from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras, the orchestra has championed many contemporary Czech compositions.
The Janacek Chamber Orchestra has toured extensively throughout Europe, North America, Mexico and Japan, and it has been invited to appear at important festivals such as Toledo, Bornholm, Munich, Prague, Florence, Turku and Flanders. The ensemble has recorded on the Supraphon, RCA, Panton and Riccordi labels, and it has made numerous appearances on international radio and television.
The New York Times wrote, "The Janacek Chamber Orchestra is certainly one of the best Gorgeous string playing by any standards," and the Los Angeles Times added, "Ravishingly played held the audience spellbound."
